- Breaking out the existing pavement with an excavator-mounted hydraulic breaker and by hand
- Excavation of the pavement trench between the viaduct piers
- Spreading and levelling of brick aggregate sub-base in the excavated trench
- Compaction of sub-base and base course with walk-behind vibratory rollers and tandem rollers
- Field density testing of each compacted layer before the next course
- Traffic management with water-filled barriers on a road kept open to traffic
